Last week, Saturday Night Live had a sketch about how today's youth have a false sense of themselves. It was very insightful. We keep telling them, "You can do anything you set your mind to." But the truth is well.... that's not true.

The upcoming generation often ends up acting like nobody should challenge them, or tell them they are bad at something because it's simply not fair. We keep taking away anything that can have a negative impact so as to make people feel good about themselves.

This raises an important question though. Isn't it the challenges in life and the reality of what you are good at or not good at that shapes who you become? If you keep being told you're awesome just because you tried instead of being told, "That was not good." How are you going to know the difference? It's like all the horrible singers on American Idol that just don't get how horrible they are.

Life is not a motivational poster. I ran into a political figure this week, who I called out when I thought he wasn't living by example the motivational sayings on his propaganda. Even though I agreed with his message, I had a hard time with what he was actually projecting.

Life throws us crazy curves. How we live and act during those says so much about who we really are, and not just what we "say" we are. How do you deal with "Real Life"? Quotes from smart people and motivational sayings "ie: Cat hanging on a rope" (Hang in there) aren't enough to sustain in real times of trouble.

Last week Lady GAG-A released her new single, (Born this Way) I saw an article about and decided to take a listen. I was instantly surprised that I wasn't actually listening to (Express Yourself) by Madonna.

At first I thought no one else would call GAGA to task for the sound alike. I was pleasantly surprised when the internet blew up this week pointing out what I already knew. Then GAGA apparently snubbed Madonna at the Grammys by mentioning that she was thinking of Whitney Houston when she wrote her new song. Then Madonna's youtube site that had not had an update in months suddenly posted the Express yourself video the next day. GAGA went on Jay Leno saying Madonna had emailed her giving her kudos for the song. Madonna's people say it never happened. WHAT IS GOING HERE? Does it sound the same to you? Tonight we put it to the test with a mashup side by side.

The point is, many people live their lives not happy with who they are. Some constantly live in the shadow of someone else, or trying to be like others. God has made you special and unique. Be yourself.

THE ROCK SHOW - Civic Pride (or) Should we put a statue of Robocop in Detroit?

Sometimes you just can't make this stuff up folks.

Mayor Dave Bing's plan for a New Detroit does not include a RoboCop statue.

In an attempt to engage the community, Bing and his communications team have been responding to queries on the mayor's official Twitter account.

Monday, one Twitter user humorously asked Bing to consider erecting a statue of RoboCop to recognize the city's relationship to to the 1987 sci-fi film.

"Philadelphia has a statue of Rocky & Robocop would kick Rocky's butt," one person tweeted "He's a GREAT ambassador for Detroit."

Whether he was in on the joke or not, @mayordavebing responded: "There are not any plans to erect a statue to Robocop. Thank you for the suggestion."

Local residents and fans of the film retweeted the exchange and now an organization has been set up to raise over $50,000 to build the statue without the city's official help.

Mark Epple of Minneapolis found a 12 karat diamond ring belonging to a couple celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. Epple, "Did the right thing" by tracking down the owner and giving it back. Mark had recently lost his job so it would have been easy for him to keep such an expensive piece of jewelry and pocket the cash. Yet, Mr. Epple said he wanted to set a good example to his 3 kids.

Here's one to debate. Public personalities seem to always complain that their private lives are on display for all to see. Many of them get hostile when confronted with paparazzi or people asking for an autograph ect...

Then there is the subject of their personal lives. These people are looked at being role models and people to look up to. It's not just celebrities. What about local politicians, ministers, teachers, football coaches (who have a thing for a woman's feet) are these people entitled to a personal life outside of the public's watchful eye? What is our responsibility as Christians in setting an example to the world?

Many feel that over the last few years there has been a war on Christmas. From removing Nativity Scenes from public property, to the common PC Greeting "Happy Holidays", to use of the term X-Mas instead of Christmas in printed materials. It seems there is a ploy to erase "Christmas" and replace it with a more secular, bland, all holiday inclusive tripe.

Even some Atheists are jumping on the bandwagon this season by buying billboard that say, "You Know IT'S a Myth, This Season celebrate Reason" in a direct effort to present an opposition to believers. What is a God Fearing Christian to do?

How should we address these things? Some act out of emotion and feel the obligation to sternly put people in their place that it's "Merry Christmas!" But is that the proper response of a Christian?

After the Buffalo Bills 19-16 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Orchard Park a couple Sundays ago, wide receiver Steve Johnson, who dropped the game-winning touchdown in the endzone during the extra session, sent out a controversial tweet that was aimed at God, citing the Lord himself as the reason why he didn't come up with the football.

DoesGod even care about a football game? How many things do we blame on God are just a direct result of our own choices?

THE ROCK SHOW - Second Chances

A couple of weeks ago Michigan State University Head Football Coach Mark Dantonio had a decision to make about about Senior Cornerback Chris Rucker.

Rucker was cited for driving while intoxicated and his blood alcohol was .10 in the early hours of Oct. 10 after the Spartans' win against Michigan. His recent arrest led to a plea agreement to reckless driving, an eight-day jail term and two more years of probation. The question on everyone's mind was, "Will he be allowed to rejoin the team, and play the next game?"

Many called for Rucker to be dismissed and not allowed back on the field, but citing that Coach Dantonio is a man of faith, faith in God, faith in family, faith in football, and faith in everyone in his program could their room for
"MERCY?"

Coach Dantonio says, He's not a saint. He calls himself a sinner. But he's also real, caring, and a giver He believes in forgiveness. He believes God gave him another chance after the heart attack he suffered earlier in the year. So He is paying forward and giving another chance to one of his players.

"Jersey Shore" star Nicole (Snooki) Polizzi reckons Seaside Heights residents should feel lucky to have her parading around their turf wearing skimpy outfits, downing shots and causing a scene.

"I'm the best thing in this town," she arrogantly declared after cops busted her for being a drunk nuisance Friday, according to an insider.

"She was bad-mouthing everyone who walked by her [in the police stationhouse]. She was saying 'I'm a star, you can't do this to me.'" Snooki unleashed a boozed-up, expletive-filled rant after being arrested for disorderly conduct, and attempted to use her new-found fame as a "get-out-of-jail-free" card.

"You can't tell me what to do - I'm Snooki," she yelled at officers, according to witnesses. "Do you know who I am? I'm f------ Snooki. You can't do this to me. I'm f------ Snooki. You guys are going to be sorry for this. Release me!" Not surprisingly, her harsh language didn't do the trick.

More and more society is becoming relaxed when it comes to what's acceptable to portray in movies, tv, radio, and advertisements. Companies are taking big liberties in how they handle ad campaigns. Just this week while in the grocery store I saw an ad for Franks Red Hot sauce that read, "Franks, I put that Sh*t on everything!" and then there's Hellauvagood Sour cream.

This is mixed with the way over the top sexual ads we see everywhere. Why have we gotten to this place? Is this alright? Are people who oppose it just old fuddy duddies? We discuss this on this week's The Rock Show.

Parenting: The good, the bad, and the ugly!!

Bad mommy! At least according to authorities in Indianapolis. Tanesha Turner faces theft and other charges after police say she coaxed her 5-year-old daughter into stealing a woman's purse at a Chuck E. Cheese. According to officers, Turner admitted to pointing to the purse and urging her little girl to, "do it for mommy." Turner's boyfriend, Cornelius Brown, is also facing charges.

It's hard raising kids in today's world. What's wrong with some of these parents nowadays?
Have you ever felt overwhelmed? Have you ever seen that parent in the grocery store letting their kid get away with
murder, and felt like you wanted to take charge? Have you ever been the parent that
can't seem to get a grip on your child? Have you ever asked your child to steal for
you in Chuck E. Cheeses?

Lindsay Lohan announced this week she was suing the company E-Trade for the commercial they showed during this years Superbowl. In the commercial "the ones with the little babies" a little girl is referred to as a "Milk-a-holic." Ms. Lohan says that because the baby is named "Lindsay" that it implies it is her.

How much money does she feel this offense requires? $100,000,000.00!!!!!!!!

Zero Tolerance Policies in Schools

So, a little 6 year old kindergarten student from Ionia, Michigan was suspended this last week for making a gun out of his fist and finger! Other stories like the 3rd grader who was suspended for a YEAR because her grandma made a birthday cake and sent it along to school with a knife to cut it are rampant. Does this go too far? The policies are there to supposedly protect children, but is it doing more harm to our kids if we are not training them correctly and basing our corrections on the actual circumstances?

Body Modification - You too can be a Transformer!

Enosh and Mike continue to take "The Rock Show" to new highs.....and lows. This week we discuss Body Modification. People have been "Modifying" their bodies since the beginning of time. Some cultures deepest beliefs are based on what we would call body modification.

Today it takes on all kinds of different forms. Everything from the common tattoo, to breast implants, scarring, cutting, liposuction, silicon lip injections, and branding!! Ouch! (It sounds bad, but there are much worse Body Modification practices)

ROBOTS!!!! They are here to take our jobs, steal our women, and kill every man on the planet!

Over 30 years ago this week the first human ever killed by a robot breathed his last breath at that fateful Ford Plant.

Technology has increased in amazing leaps and bounds in the last 100 years. The fact that many will download this episode as a podcast is a testament to that. That fact that we have an online radio show at all also proves that point.

Can some of this every growing tech be bad? What about the fact that each of us is now trackable thanks to the tech in our phones, cars, computers. Are we really safe? What about the prophecy guys who claim it is all part of a scheme to be used in the end times to hunt and kill Christians. Is it some far fetched story, or a growing reality?

Will we ever be happy with the cell phone we have?

Scripture on Guns? WWJD? Separation of Church and State

While U.S. military rules forbid proselytizing
in Iraq or Afghanistan, soldiers there are
carrying weapons inscribed with biblical
references.

Trijicon, a Wixom, MI-based supplier that
has a $660 million multi-year contract with
the Marine Corps and additional contracts
with the U.S. Army, inscribes coded references to New Testament Bible
verses on its ACOG high-powered rifle sights sold to the military.

This has caused many to cry "Separation of Church and State!!!"

The debate has increased in the media as the week went on; getting even hotter
than the Conan/Leno Tonight Show wars!

Generals, congressmen, senators, and news reporters debated whether
taxpayer money should be used to buy these scopes until finally Trijicon
announced they would remove the verses in the future.

Is this really an issue of Separation of Church and State?  What about
"In God We Trust?"  Should scripture be on a weapon for killing?
Politically correct, or politically redundant? Enosh and Mike dive in head first
hoping there's nothing lurking in the muddy waters.

Why do bad things happen?

With the recent earthquake in Haiti, Pat Robertson came out saying that the people of Haiti had made a pact with the devil long ago. This according to him, brought about the quake. Others have given God's wrath as reasons for 9/11, hurricane Katrina, and other horrible events in our world today.

Does God send these as punishment? What does the bible actually say? Is this nothing more than a few old men looking to get some shocking air time? Is God just a big bully? Could it be that sometimes bad things just happen?

I attended a tax seminar in preparation for the 2009/2010 filing season and the IRS agent who taught part of the class kept using the adjective "voluntary" to describe the U.S. tax system. I was not sure if she was trying to convince us or herself.

Modern states, even those which claim to be democracies, stifle their citizens with oppressive and artificial machinery such as laws and taxes. These are imposed by the people who run the state - the élites, the governing classes. Anarchists believe it is better to live without such controls imposed by such people. This does not mean they stand for complete chaos though; they support co-operation and barter between individuals as profitable. Only without controls can humans truly live naturally and freely.

GRUDGE MATCH - 2009!!!

The "ROCK" Show was pleased to host Vicki Labrock from SPAZZradio's Tourniquet Radio on May 24, 2009. She came to the ROCK Studio One to settle a beef with The "ROCK" Show's co-host Enosh Fee. The beef was about Vicki declaring Tourniquet Radio a "Stryper Free Zone" and in Enosh's world - those are fighting words. So the boxing ring was arranged and the boxers each came to defend their positions.
